Chin Implants

The chin is as vital to overall attractiveness as the eyes and nose. A strong, well-defined chin can create pleasing proportions and a more beautiful profile while improving the appearance of your neck, nose, and cheeks.

Creating Balance What Can a Chin Implant Do for You?

  • Shift the bone of the chin forward or backward
  • Minimize a deep fold beneath the lower lip
  • Create a shorter, narrower, or longer chin
  • Widen a small chin
  • Create a more balanced profile by strengthening a weak or receding chin

Choosing Your Implant

One of the most important components of your surgery is selecting your implant. In general, male patients tend to choose larger implants, while women opt for smaller ones.

During your consultation in his Michigan office, Dr. Berkowitz will review the various sizes, shapes and projections that are available to help you determine which one is in your best interest. Dr. Berkowitz will encourage you to take your time during the planning phase of the procedure, as he wants you to be completely confident that you have chosen the right implant for you.

The Surgery

Chin implant surgery is done as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. To begin, Dr. Berkowitz, a cosmetic surgeon in Michigan, will create a tiny incision beneath the chin or inside the mouth. Through that opening, he will place the implant and position the structure carefully around your underlying bone. Once inserted, your implant will feel like your natural chin.

There will be no evidence that the procedure was performed—your face will look naturally more balanced and proportionate. In general, chin implant procedures can be completed in under an hour. However, many of our Michigan patients combine their surgery with complementary enhancements, such as a nose job, eyelid surgery, a facelift, and more to achieve a comprehensive transformation.

The Recovery What to Expect After Surgery

Chin implants involve a straightforward procedure and a relatively light recovery period. The majority of our Michigan patients are back to sedentary work and light daily activities within about one week. As with any surgery, some post-operative discomfort is to be expected. However, it’s typically minimal and can be easily managed with pain medication and compresses. As you recover, it’s important to follow Dr. Berkowitz’s instructions for optimal healing. To that end, you will be advised to:

  • Sleep on your back with your head elevated for one to two weeks
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for three to four weeks
  • Consume a liquid diet for two days

The New You, Revealed…

As the swelling subsides, the results of your chin implant surgery will slowly emerge with an improved profile and more balanced facial features. After about three months, your healing process will be complete and your results will be considered final.
