Many people in the Detroit area mistakenly believe that if they just eat the right foods and exercise a little bit more, their problems with cellulite will eventually disappear. In reality, cellulite is a structural problem that forms far below the skin’s surface and external methods do very little to resolve its dimpled appearance. For real results that will last, our suburban Detroit office provides Cellulaze™ cellulite treatments, which address cellulite formation below the skin where treatment will count the most.
If you’re ready to see an improvement in your visible cellulite, contact us online to schedule a consultation with board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Berkowitz and see if Cellulaze™ may be right for you.
Cellulite is a commonly misunderstood condition. At first glance, it seems that cellulite is the result of an uneven buildup of fatty deposits, and getting rid of excess fat cells should make the problem go away. As a result, attempts to diet or exercise, or even fat removal methods like liposuction are used to try and get rid of existing cellulite.
The problem is that the dimpled appearance of your skin, which occurs primarily in women along the thighs, isn’t caused by excess fat alone. Instead, it’s a combination of fat cells and the unique honeycomb pattern of the overlying connective tissue. The thick, fibrous strands of connective tissue press down against the fat cells below; as the cells press upward through the honeycomb pattern, little lumps are formed. The connective tissue effectively traps the fat cells in place so they can’t be removed through liposuction, and weight loss methods may reduce some of the fat but won’t touch the tougher tissue above responsible for the distinctive lumpy cellulite texture.
How Cellulaze™ Helps
The default approach toward treating cellulite has always been to address the fat deposits, a method that hasn’t met with much success. Cellulaze™ is a breakthrough cellulite treatment that primarily addresses the other component of cellulite instead: the connective tissue. During your treatment session, cellulite expert Dr. Berkowitz will insert a very narrow cannula (small surgical tube) beneath the skin. From inside this cannula, the SideLight™ laser fiber is able to target precision laser energy directly at the fibrous bands that are pressing against the internal fat deposits. The tight connective tissue is released, while the laser energy simultaneously reduces the fat pockets pushing through. This combination approach allows the lumpy appearance of your cellulite to be smoothed away.
Cellulaze™ also makes improvements on the surface of your skin, increasing thickness by up to 25 percent, and improving skin elasticity by 29 percent. Firmer, more elastic skin means a smoother surface, which also helps diminish the appearance of cellulite. New collagen forms underneath the skin as well, adding an additional supportive layer to ensure that the results of your Cellulaze™ are long-term.
Recovery and Results
Since Cellulaze™ is minimally invasive, the majority of our Sterling Heights patients notice only mild discomfort during the procedure, which takes between one and two hours. A more comfortable procedure translates to a quick recovery time; most women are back to their normal daily activities in just a day or two. Although incisions are necessary to allow the cannula insertion, they’re only about the size of a pencil and should heal up to nearly invisible.
You should see an immediate difference after just one Cellulaze™ treatment, with ongoing improvements over the following several months as the body’s internal collagen production continues to smooth the appearance of the treated area. You can expect the results to last for a year or more, as long as you continue maintaining healthy dieting and exercise habits.
