Brow Lift

For many individuals, the forehead is one of the first areas to show the signs of age. Deep forehead furrows, frown lines, drooping eyebrows and hooding over the eyes can develop due to age or heredity, resulting in a tired, worn or even angry appearance. If you are bothered by these conditions, the brow lift can help. The brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a plastic surgery procedure that addresses aging conditions in the brow and forehead area to make you appear younger, more animated and more alert.

If the appearance of your forehead is making you look older than you feel, contact us online to schedule a brow lift consultation at our suburban Detroit, Michigan practice.

Brow Lift Techniques

Facial cosmetic surgeon Dr. Mark N. Berkowitz performs the brow lift in an operating room with IV sedation. There are several different techniques which may be used to reposition a heavy brow or fallen forehead, the choice of which will depend on the individual patient and their desires. For some patients a less extensive procedure may be sufficient which only repositions the brow. Other patients may be seeking more dramatic improvement in the upper face in order to address deep forehead creases or excess hooding.

Dr. Berkowitz commonly performs the direct brow lift technique at the same time as upper eyelid surgery. This allows the brow lift to be performed through the same incision made for eyelid surgery, which is a thin incision located along the natural crease of the eyelid.

Through this incision, the fallen brow is repositioned by raising the brow and tacking it into place with a dissolvable implant.

Once the incisions heal, the scars are not visible. For temporal and suture brow lifts, small incisions are hidden within the hairline and the fallen brow is repositioned with suture lifts, or thick suturing material. This is an excellent technique for dramatically reducing the appearance of heavy hooding at the outer corners of the eyes. Another technique, the endoscopic forehead lift, uses a tiny camera device known as an endoscope. This procedure is performed through tiny incisions which are hidden in the hairline, resulting in minimal scarring and less recovery time.

Brow Lift Recovery

With most modern brow lift techniques, our (Sterling Heights) patients are on their feet in a few days and able to return to work within one to two weeks. Patients can expect some degree of bruising and swelling, but these side effects typically fade within a couple of weeks. Strenuous activity and exercise, as well as prolonged sun exposure, will need to be postponed for about one month. Many patients choose to combine the brow lift with other procedures like facelift or eyelid lift and in these cases recovery time may increase by a few days.

If you’re ready to visit our office in suburban Detroit, our brow lift and forehead lift will rejuvenate your appearance so you look younger and feel refreshed.
