About Thermage at Accents Cosmetic Surgery and MedSpa

Also known as ThermaCool, radiothermoplasty, and Thermalift, Thermage is a non-surgical procedure for skin tightening that utilizes radio waves to firm and lift the skin. It helps in rejuvenating different parts of the body such as the face, legs, butt, arms, knees, and stomach. Though originally used for facial skin tightening, for improving facial contours without downtime and incisions, and for smoothing wrinkles; Thermage’s usage has been extended to other areas of the body.

Thermage redefines jaw-lines, increases cheekbones’ prominence, lifts sagging eyebrows, and eliminates signs of aging. Moreover, it will not only tighten wrinkled facial skin, it also improves the appearances of turkey necks and double chins.

Thermage Process

Thermage is performed at Accents Cosmetic Surgery and Medspa in Sterling Heights, Michigan. An exceptionally qualified cosmetic surgeon, Mark N. Berkowitz, MD uses his unique skills and specialized training to enhance a patient’s cosmetic needs.

In fact, as one of the 18 surgeons having specialized expertise and certification in Michigan, Dr. Berkowitz has been performing surgical and non-surgical procedures for cosmetic enhancement including the Thermage procedure for more than 10 years.

Depending on the condition and the size of the skin’s area, the Thermage procedure may take one hour or more. Thermage works through radio-frequency energy that heats up the collagen, the structural protein found in the skin’s deep layers.

With each energy pulse that usually takes 2 – 7 seconds, it cools down the skin’s outer layer while heating up the skin’s deeper layers; and the fats that were heated induce collagen tightening. It requires 400 – 600 energy pulses to treat the entire face, while the needed number of energy pulses for treating other body parts varies. Thermage contracts and helps build collagen, providing a tighter look to the skin’s appearance.

Thermage Effects

Thermage results are visible as early as after the first procedure. For instance, some women who go through Thermage body contouring procedure around their bellies have lost 1.5 inches on their abdomen girth right after one treatment.

During the initial process of Thermage, the skin will start to tighten and will continue to tighten for the next three to six months onwards. The Thermage procedure yields more collagen over time while stimulating the body’s natural healing capability.

Mild pinch sensations are often experienced during the Thermage procedure. However, a new vibrating hand piece is used to lessen the discomfort. Oral medications and topical anesthetics are also administered prior to treatment.

Best Candidates for the Thermage Procedure

Thermage works great for individuals who need one to two millimeters of facial tightening or one and more centimeters of brow lifting. The best candidates for Thermage as a body contouring procedure are those who have sagging skin on their lower belly, especially for women who have had kids. It also works great for individuals who have flabby buttocks, inner thighs, and upper arms.

Thermage Side Effects

Thermage side effects are usually temporary and rare. It includes dimpling, bumps, peeling,  blisters, redness, and swelling.
