At ACCENTS, Dr. Mark Berkowitz offers a revolutionary treatment for tightening loose, sagging skin without surgery.  Using the safe radio-frequency energy of the Thermage procedure to tighten skin, we are able to produce long lasting, remarkable results without incisions or extended recovery time.

Depending on the size of the area treated, the procedure itself may take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.   This treatment is highly effective on the skin of the:

• Forehead: to lift the eyebrows and enhance the appearance of the eyes, making the eyes look more open, less tired, and more alert
• Mid Face: to soften deep creases and lift the cheek
• Lower Face/Neck: to tighten sagging jowls and reduce fullness of the chin

This technique is called Thermage.  Radio frequency (RF) energy uniformly heats deep layers of the skin while cooling and protecting the skin’s surface. It is designed to tighten skin while helping to initiate the production of new collagen, which occurs gradually over time - following just a single 1-2 hour treatment session.

Each pulse of energy during the treatment feels cool, followed by a brief hot sensation, followed by a cool sensation.  Oral medications are given to you about one hour before the procedure to help minimize discomfort during the treatment.

QUICK RECOVERY…

Patients may return to normal activities almost immediately following treatment, as there is usually no "downtime."  Because of the medication given prior to treatment, a responsible adult is needed to drive patients home.  Also, most patients will likely want to sleep for a few hours after treatment until the medications wear off.

LITTLE RISK...

Minimal redness is seen in some patients but usually disappears shortly after treatment. Heat-related complications can occur but are uncommon. There is no special care needed after treatment. However, as a part of good skin care regimen, sunscreen is recommended.

The results of the treatment can last anywhere from several months to several years, depending on the aging process of the patient.  While not a substitute for a surgical facelift, the Thermage procedure can be used on patients with a moderate amount of sagging skin and wrinkles.
