Every time that you laugh, concentrate, frown or squint, the muscles of your face contract and the skin creases. With time and age, the elasticity in the skin diminishes, causing these expression creases to deepen into permanent facial lines. Even at relatively young ages, certain expression lines like frown lines can become noticeable and lead to a worried or angry expression.

Dysport® is a new FDA-approved treatment for forehead wrinkles and frown lines. This simple, non-surgical treatment can effectively restore a more youthful and relaxed facial appearance. Dysport® is also FDA-approved to treat cervical dystonia to improve symptoms of an abnormal head position and neck pain in adults.

Like Botox, Dysport® is made from Clostridium botulinum and works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles in the forehead. This effectively smoothes and reduces the appearance of frown lines and forehead wrinkles.

Dysport® is administered via injection in the office setting. Anesthesia is not necessary, though a numbing agent may be used prior to treatment. Several injections are used to administer tiny amounts of Dysport® directly into the facial muscle underlying the frown line or forehead wrinkle. Treatment is painless and takes about ten to twenty minutes to complete. Over the next few days, the muscles will gradually relax and the appearance of frown lines and forehead wrinkles will diminish. Dysport® has few side effects but in rare cases these may include soreness and mild bruising at the injection sight, a slight headache lasting for several hours after treatment, ptosis or drooping of the eyelid lasting for up to four weeks, and allergic reaction leading to flu-like symptoms or skin rash.
