How painful is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is a different comfort level for each patient. Some patients that have a low pain tolerance may find it more irritating than painful. We also place a numbing cream to the area being treated to make the treatment more comfortable for our patients.
How does laser hair removal compare to electrolysis?
Laser hair removal works best on dark hair and lighter skin. Laser hair removal uses a light that breaks through the skin and goes after the hair follicle. The light then changes to heat and breaks down the follicle. Laser hair removal to an area is usually accomplished in a series of 6 treatments spaced out over a month apart from each treatment.
Electrolysis is another technique of hair removal but is performed differently. With electrolysis a needle is placed into every hair follicle. A low level electric current breaks down the hair follicle. Since the treatment focuses on one hair follicle at a time it is more time consuming for the patient. Another difference is the amount of time you will need to have this treatment done. It can take up to 30 treatments before the hair follicle is completely gone.
I currently wax my legs. I am planning to get the more permanent laser hair removal. Does waxing interfere with the treatment?
Prior to laser hair removal, I would allow hair growth and would not wax prior to the procedure to get the best result.
