Question:

Another Doctor Injected Perlane and I am unhappy with the results, can you help me?

Answer:

I would be happy to help you with your concerns with Perlane. Perlane, Juvederm, Restylane or Elevess are all Hyaluronic Acids (HA).   .  Side effects from these fillers and dissatisfaction is rare. They are soft and work well to fill in lines and wrinkles around the face. When  these occasions do occur the wonderful thing about this group  of fillers is that we can offer  Hyaluronidase to reduce or dissolve them.  As an Ocular Plastic surgeon, in the suburbs of Detroit, I utlize Wydase all of the time as part of my freezing solution for eyelid surgery.  Side effects from this substance are rare with the most common being an allergic reaction As I have not examined you it is impossible to state if masking the lump with more filler would answer the problem.  .  Other time Perlane can be removed directly.  Feel free to speak with Angela at my office and det up a complimentary consultation.

Question:

Can Restylane, Juvederm or Other fillers get Rid of Vertical Lip Lines?

Answer:

Vertical lip lines can be treated with direct injection with collagen or HA (Restylane, Juvederm).  This works best if there are just one or two lines per half lip segment.  It is very much dependent upon the skill of the injector.

Hills and valleys can easily be created when trying to eradicate single lip lines.  I like to treat the lip with multiple methods.  I have a 1,2,3 approach:

  1. Filler to fill both the red of the lips and the surrounding skin
  2. Botox to treat the dynamic (moving) muscle underneath the skin.  Make sure your injector knows what he/she are doing here!  Too much botox in the lips and you will have a difficult time drinking your soup!
  3. Laser skin resurfacing to build up collagen and tighten the surround skin.  With this approach I have been able to create Sexy Paris Lips in Detroit, Michigan.

Question:

My cheeks have sunken can you use Juvederm to raise them?

Answer:

Yes, a cosmetic surgeon can use Juvederm or Restylane (HA- hyaluronic acid) to add volume to the cheeks. My current favorite filler for these purposes is Radiesse. I gently place this filler from the inside of the mouth (much like a dentist would work).

Radiesse has the added benefit that it lasts longer than Juvederm. This is because unlike Juvederm, Radiesse has little calcium deposits within the jelly-like material that is injected. These deposits stimulate collagen growth. It is for this reason you may see the filler last double the other fillers (HA).

Sculptra (PLLA) can also work beautifully to fill large areas like the cheeks. While Sculptra can last the longest of the fillers, the benfits are delayed, as most patients need a series of injections to obtain the results they desire.

All of the fillers are used off-label for the cheeks. Lastly, surgically you can enhance your cheeks; your own body fat can be transferred to your cheeks, or there are terrific cheek implants that can be placed by your cosmetic surgeon.
