New Study Shows Lip Injections Can Make You Look More Youthful

Lip injections may prove to be just the thing for women who want to look younger without spending lots of money on plastic surgery.
New
research suggests that women who want to look years younger may not
need to undergo any major plastic surgery — at least not yet. For now, a simple lip injection may do the trick.
Unilever funded a study of more than 250 women of various ages to
figure out what feature most separated older women from younger women.
According to lead researcher David Gunn, the women who looked young for
their age had something in common: thicker lips. Noted Gunn, “It is a feature that is strongly genetically determined and relatively easy to measure.”
Lip augmentation is generally performed with injectable fillers such as collagen,
silicone or even fat. The first two fillers are readily available but
temporary in their effects. Fat injections last longer, but results are
less predictable.. And, more rarely, there is the option of a permanent
surgical implant that, unlike the injectable fillers, does not
disappear. The side effects of these procedures, which are always possible, include scarring or a lumpy and uneven appearance.
Simply getting bigger lips may not necessarily give the overall
youthful appearance women desire. Gunn admitted that women who are
elderly – or middle-aged, but with thin lips – may more wisely opt for
some facial injections, such as Botox, rather than lip augmentation alone, which “doesn’t counter the impact of a wrinkled face.”
Note: This February, Dr. Berkowitz at Accents Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa is offering a special on Lip Augmentation: $200 off all fillers and $100 off Permanent Makeup. Call 586-254-7692 to take advantage of this special offer to get youthful, luscious lips!

Wait for weight loss to have cosmetic procedures?
Posted June 02, 2009 10:18 PM in Facial Contouring
Should I wait for my face to adjust after weight loss before I go through Acclaim Laser Skin Rejuvenation and Sculptra?
I just lost 30 lbs, and I'd like to know, are there any advantages to waiting for the face to adjust before going through Laser and Sculptra procedures?
In response, I congratulate you on your weight loss. This is hard work but a worthwhile endeavor. Unfortunately we cannot always choose where the weight loss will come from. Many of us end up looking older when we lose weight in our face. We need to replace this volume (fat, muscle, bone) in our faces to look young.
Think about what a balloon looks like as it deflates and the latex gets all shriveled; this happens to our skin as well. If you are finished in your quest to lose weight this may be an ideal time to have a filler and resurfacing.
Sculptra and Acclaim are certainly option thought they may not necessarily be the ones that are best for you. It is important that you have a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon who can guide you. Good Luck.
