Question:

The debate continues: is aging gracefully just for men?

Answer:

Just this past week, two of America's most popular television shows revealed some thoughts on cosmetic surgery for men.

On Desperate Housewives, Lynette tries to disuade her husband from undergoing a brow lift and encourages him to age gracefully.  Lynette goes so far as to bring a seemingly over-Botoxed co-worker home as a scare tactic.  (A result not typically seen when procedures are performed correctly.)

Within days, the ladies of television's The View also pushed this subject in their Hot Topics segments arguing that when men undergo cosmetic surgery that they "go overboard" - with Whoopi Goldberg hammering this point home by highlighting the unattractive results seen on Bruce Jenner and Kenny Rogers.  While Joy Behar argues that cosmetic surgery is simply addictive - and though we're used to women looking plastic, we aren't used to men caring about their looks.  With Barbara Walters support of Behar's argument, she points out that as a society we are entirely used to women being vain but when men are we're simply uncomfortable.

I perform many procedures for men and find that when done conservatively they look natural and rejuvenated... much the same as when performing surgery or enhancement procedures for women.  Most patients do not come to me looking for extreme makeover-like results and are thrilled with their outcomes.  I encourage you to look through the before and after photos on my website of male patients.

What do you think about men undergoing cosmetic enhancement procedures?
